DIY Deodorizing Disks – Quick And Simple:
All you need is some baking soda and your favourite essential oil and you are done. These lovely little deodorizing disks will keep your home smelling yummy.
DIY Deodorizing Disks – What You Need:
Things required for making the deodorizing disks are easy to procure at home. You will need:
• Baking soda – 2 cups
• Boiled and cooled water – 1 – 2 cups
• 10 to 12 drops of essential oil of your choice.
• Baking pan and silicone baking cups (floral shapes look pretty…)
How To Make These Deodorizing Disks:
Add baking soda to a small container like a small pail. Add twelve drops of essential oil to half a cup of water. Lavender or Citrus smell great! You can also use a combination of lavender and mint. Some even like the strong scented eucalyptus oil. A small 10 ml bottle of essential oil can last you for many months. Pour this into the baking soda and mix well to form a thick paste. Add more water if needed. Note that the paste should be thick and not runny.
Pour the baking soda mixture into the silicone cups. Make sure that you fill up only 1/4th of the moulds. Line a baking pan with these cups. Bake this in an oven, preheated to 350 degrees, for 20 minutes or till the disks are firm. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for five to ten minutes. You can again top them with a two or three more drops of essential oil.
Now take out the silicone cups from the baking pan and let them cool properly for 15 to 20 minutes. Thereafter, take out the deodorizing disks from the silicone baking cups. This yields around 10 -12 scented deodorizing disks. Make sure you store them in an air tight container or zip lock pouches. Keep these nice smelling disks in a cute vase on your living room centre table. Keep one near the garbage bin or inside your laundry bag. Keep another one in your bathroom. These DIY deodorizing disks are long lasting and can last up to a month. For your next batch, try another essential oil like rosewood or germanium.
You could add a drop of yellow, baby pink or light blue food color to make these scented disks look prettier. Adding dried flowers to the baking soda mixture is another idea to make them look lovely. Plop up a few of these deodorizing disks into small, cute, satin pouches and gift them to friends and neighbors.
